Media Reform Coalition UK - Stakeholders

The Media Reform Coalition was set up in September 2011 to coordinate the most effective contribution by civil society groups, academics and media campaigners to debates over media regulation, ownership and democracy in the UK. Its work moves from the fact that Britain has one of the most concentrated media environments in the world, with 3 companies in control of 71% of national newspaper circulation and 5 companies in command of 81% of local newspaper titles.

The Media Reform Coalition is committed to supporting media pluralism, defending ethical journalism and protecting investigative and local journalism.

Share Foundation - Stakeholders

The Share Foundation is an international NGO based in Belgrade (Serbia) focusing its activities on Internet and digital media as fundamental elements for achieving democratic change in society, as a tool for improvement of government accountability and transparency, and socioeconomic empowerment of citizens.

SHARE Defense is part of the Share Foundation and its goal is to fight for the public interest concerning digital rights within the fields of privacy, free speech, government transparency and efficiency, surveillance and human rights. SHARE Defense staff includes lawyers, analysts, journalists and technicians with an expertise in the protection of digital rights.

Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia - Stakeholders

Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS) is a professional organization with around 3300 members. 

Founded in 1994, NUNS has as its main objectives the promotion of free and pluralist media in Serbia; the advancement of professional and ethical standards; the protection of the rights and interests of media professionals as well as the promotion of cooperation among journalists and journalist organizations in the country and abroad.

European Law Students' Association (ELSA) - Stakeholders

ELSA is an independent organisation run by and for students in the field of European Law. ELSA has 43 Member and Observer countries with more than 300 Local Groups and 42,000 students. 

In 2015, ELSA set up an International Legal Research Group on Freedom of Expression and Protection of Journalistic Sources which conducted an investigation across 28 different countries to assess safeguards and challenges to confidentiality of journalistic sources.

Open Society Foundation - Stakeholders

The Open Society Foundation works since 1979 to build vibrant and tolerant societies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people. The Open Society Foundation fund a range of programs around the world, from public health to education to business development.

It supports efforts that expand and protect press freedoms, increase public access to knowledge and information, include minority voices in media, and use the arts to address pressing social issues.

Reporters Without Borders - Stakeholders

Reporters Without Borders was founded in 1985 in France, where it is registered as a non-profit organisation. RWB mission includes the monitoring, denounce and prevention of attacks on freedom of information worldwide. The organization specialised spheres of activity also include a focus on Internet Censorship and the New Media, and the support to journalists working in dangerous areas.

Reporters Without Borders has an active presence in five continents through a network of over 150 correspondents, and enjoys a consultant status at the United Nations and UNESCO.

European Audiovisual Observatory - Stakeholders

The European Audiovisual Observatory is a public service organisation, part of the Council of Europe.

The Observatory was created in 1992 to collect and distribute information about the audiovisual industries in Europe, with the aim to promote greater transparency. The work of the Observatory focuses on the following fields: Film, Broadcasting, Home video, On-demand audiovisual services and Public policy on the audiovisual sector. The Observatory provides information from an economic and legal point of view on audiovisual markets in Europe and their financing. It also analyses and reports on the legal issues affecting the different sectors of the audiovisual industry.

The Legal Observations of the European Audiovisual Observatory (IRIS) reports monthly on the most important legal developments for the audiovisual industry in 39 European countries.

The Observatory also provides access to free on-line databases, such as AVMS Database on the transposition of the AVMS directive into national legislation, IRIS Merlin on legal information on the audiovisual sector in Europe, KORDA on funding for film and audiovisual works, Lumiere on admissions of films released in Europe and MAVISE on TV services in Europe.

Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom - Stakeholders

The Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) is a project co-financed by the European Union in the framework of the European Commission’s on-going effort to improve the protection of media pluralism and media freedom in Europe.

The Centre is headed by Professor Pier Luigi Parcu and its residential team  is composed of experts in the following areas: legal studies, new media policies, media markets and economics,  political science and political communications. It is also supported by a Group of Experts. The centre headquarters are in Fiesole (Florence). 

The aim of the EUI Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom is to enhance the awareness of the importance of freedom and pluralism of the media, to contribute to its protection and promotion and to develop new ideas among academics, policy makers, regulators, market stakeholders, journalists, and all other directly involved professionals who take part in the public debate.

The Centre carries out four specific activities:

Front Line Defenders - Stakeholders

Front Line Defenders was founded in Dublin in 2001 with the specific aim of protecting human rights defenders at risk, people who work, non-violently, for any or all of the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Front Line Defenders addresses the protection needs identified by defenders themselves and provides them with practical support.  

Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI) - Stakeholders

The Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI) is an NGO based in London. Through the collaboration with national organizations and individual lawyers around the world, MLDI provides practical support to journalists, bloggers and independent media outlets under threat.
